Fiji, Aruba and hopefully Down Under
It starts to get chilly, so it is time to plan the European fall and winter seasons. I decided to undergo the Hobie Way of Life by myself. I will team up with a true Hobie 16 sailor from Germany, Ingo Delius. At the Europeans in ‘s Gravenzande he asked me whether I wanted to join him for the Worlds on Fiji. Although my name was mentioned for the job of event’s reporter, I was ready for a break and a holiday. This was just the perfect timing and according to his crew Katrin Ingo is a very nice guy to sail with. Well, enough reasons for grabbing the great opportunity to compete at the Hobie 16 Worlds 2007 in October. As we have never sailed together before, we will participate at the German nationals in Workum this weekend. But I am a journalist, so I am thrilled to write a story about our sailing experiences on Fiji or about the paradise Fiji. I will do some travelling through the archipelago as well. If any magazine is interested, please contact me.
In November it is again time for the Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta. It will be my fifth edition as event’s reporter and I am still looking forward to the Caribbean week. Also because I will team up with former winner Stuart Gummer from the UK. We will sail the F18 Capricorn. Stuart is a great sailor, so I am very excited about our regatta together. After a week of training and preparation on Aruba, the hard dual job of sailing and writing will start.
My last plan for the grey and wet winter in Europe, is to go Down Under for the 470, Finn and Tornado Worlds. It still needs to be worked out though. The first week of February is reserved for the Caribbean Sailing Regatta (former Fort Marina Regatta for men only). They asked me again for the writing and photography. The trip will be very beautiful, as we start on St. Martin, visit some surrounding islands and sail over the night to the BVI, where we will visit some islands as well.
