No record, but real battles
This year’s Zwitserleven Round Texel Race showed a different battle. Not so much against the elements, but rather against each other. Both, the overall victory and the line honours were closely fought. A windless patch reshuffled the fleet and gave the old and slow catamarans on rating the chance to catch up on the carbon high tech multihulls. Hans Primowees nearly made history with his 26-year-old Prindle 15, by missing the overall win with only 38 seconds. Remco Kenbeek and Paul Brouwer were just a little bit quicker with their F18 Capricorn. The leading F18 World Champions Darren Bundock and Glenn Ashby (AUS) ended up in third position. The Swedish M20-team Marstrom/Persson were first over the line after 4:10:34 hours.
It was my fourth year as pr co-ordinator of the Round Texel Race. Despite the soccer news, we attracted quit some media and the press releases were picked up by many e-zines in the Netherlands, UK, France, America and Belgium. For more news about the race or the Texel Dutch Open, please surf to www.roundtexel.com. Also for the fantastic action shots of Pierrick Contin, our French event’s photographer. His work can be used for free for media purposes. I also introduced my Dutch Catbook to the sailors. So far, the reactions are enthusiastic.
